Vassiliki
Vassiliki is a traditional fishing village with a picturesque harbour, nestled at the end of Vassiliki bay and situated on the southernmost tip of Levkas.
The large shallow bay of Vassiliki with its turquoise water, is headed by a pebble and sand beach stretching for about 1 kilometer with the backdrop of Mt Stavrots at 1,200 metres, clearly visible above the orange and olive groves. Bars and tavernas are dotted along the beach, giving you the chance to sit with a cold drink and take in the breathtaking views out towards the islands of Kephalonia and Ithaca.
The beach is home to the dive school, kayaking, windsurfing and dinghy sailing centres. The morning calm, ideal for a rib ride out to one of the many dive sites in and around the bay or to one of the nearby islands. Later in the afternoon the famous Vassiliki wind phenomenon, nicknamed Eric, blows and makes for fantastic sailboarding and dinghy sailing conditions.
Behind the harbour lies the small traditional village of Vassiliki, where you can find mini markets, bakers, and a butchers as well as gift and craft shops. There are car and scooter hire shops, where you can hire a car to visit any of the many attractions of Levkas. From here you can also take the bus to Levkas which runs daily, except on a Sunday. You can also hire a mountain bike to cycle along one of the tracks behind Vassiliki. During the day, ferries to Kephalonia and Ithaca run from the harbour, as well as day tripper boats to nearby beaches almost inaccessible other than by boat.
The harbour waterfront is lined with restaurants, bars and cafe’s and becomes the social focus by night, it’s twinkling lights attracting visitors both from land and by yacht. The tavernas serve traditional Greek as well as European cuisine catering for all tastes. Further along on the beach, in one of the bars popular with divers, windsurfers and dinghy sailors, you will usually find a lively party atmosphere.
